Uterine Septum | emBIO IVF Clinic Greece

Uterine Septum

Introduction

A uterine septum is a type of uterine anomaly (abnormality present from birth) consisting of a "wall" that runs along the length of the uterine cavity, separating it either partially or completely into two cavities. It is the most common uterine anomaly and is associated with the highest risk of pregnancy loss. They otherwise do not cause any symptoms.

Treatment

Treatment is based completely on the patient's wishes, reproductive history, and plans for future fertility. Unlike other uterine anomalies, a uterine septum can be treated completely via a hysteroscopic procedure, although laparoscopy is usually used to assure that other anomalies are not present.
