Office Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy is a procedure where a small telescopic camera (hysteroscope) is placed via the vagina, through the cervix, and into the uterine cavity. This procedure is easily performed in the office using a flexible microhysteroscope with little to no resulting discomfort.
After taking a mild analgesic such as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication, a local anesthetic is applied and the 2-3 mm microhysteroscope is inserted into the uterine cavity. This allows complete visualization of the uterine cavity in the evaluation of abnormal bleeding or pelvic pain.
The lining of the uterus is examined, searching for any abnormalities such as fibroids or polyps. If abnormalities are found, they can easily be treated during an outpatient hysteroscopy procedure.
